Gibco™ Essential 8™ Medium

In addition, Essential 8™ Medium has been used to scale up production of iPSCs and shown to support iPSC growth for >50 passages without any signs of karyotypic abnormalities, along with maintaining the ability of iPSCs to differentiate into all three germ line lineages.

Reduced Variability:

Essential 8™ Medium is xeno-free and contains only the 8 essential components needed for stem cell culture. Unlike other media that contain over 20 highly variable ingredients, Essential 8™ Medium is produced under cGMP and has an optimized formulation and growth factor levels to help ensure maximum cell health, pluripotency, and growth, with minimal variability.

Essential 8™ Medium has been show to support pluripotent stem cell growth and provide cultures with superior morphology and growth kinetics compared to other feeder systems.


Cost Effective:

CTS™ Essential 6 Medium

The formulation is based on a medium originally developed by Guokai Chen, et al., in the laboratory of James Thomson (1). With only six essential components, CTS Essential 6 Medium helps minimize variability. To complete your PSC workflow with a matching culture medium for the growth and expansion of PSCs, use CTS Essential 8 Medium.


CTS Essential 6 Medium:

• Provides a flexible format to suit different applications

Provides a flexible format:

CTS Essential 6 Medium does not contain bFGF or TGFβ and so can support the formation of embryoid bodies. This medium can support the directed differentiation of various cell types and somatic cell reprogramming using a variety of methods.


Facilitates regulatory filings:

CTS Essential 6 Medium is manufactured at a site that uses methods and controls that conform with cGMP for medical devices, 21 CFR Part 820. Our FDA-registered manufacturing site is ISO 13485-certified. Full documentation traceability and convenient access to our Drug Master File (DMF) are available for CTS Essential 6 Medium.


Simplifies transition from bench to clinic:

CTS Essential 6 Medium contains the same six essential components as RUO Essential 6 Medium, and with its cGMP manufacturing process, this fully-defined formulation helps minimize variability. Like RUO Essential 6 Medium, CTS Essential 6 Medium does not contain bFGF or TGF-beta, which inhibits differentiation and negatively affects reprogramming efficiency, respectively. With its additional safety testing, including adventitious agents, CTS Essential 6 Medium enables a smooth transition from RUO Essential 6 Medium.

Gibco™ Essential 6™ Medium

Differentiation:

Unlike other media used in PSC culture, Essential 6 Medium does not contain bFGF or TGFβ. As such, Essential 6 Medium can support the formation of embryoid bodies. It has also been used as a base for the directed differentiation of various cell types in the endodermal, mesodermal, and ectodermal lineages (2), including motor neurons (3).


Reprogramming:

Essential 6 Medium allows for defined and feeder-free reprogramming when used with bFGF. The formulation supports somatic cell reprogramming using a variety of methods, including episomal vectors (4) and CytoTune (Sendai virus), and is optimized to help ensure maximum cell health and pluripotency with minimal variability.


Flexibility:

Essential 6 Medium is xeno-free and contains only the essential components needed for stem cell culture, minus bFGF and TGFβ. This provides a basal medium that will maximize cell health and pluripotency while allowing levels of TGFβ and bFGF to be adjusted and additional components to be added to match a given application.

General description:Minimum Essential Medium Eagle (MEM) is a synthetic cell culture media, developed by Harry Eagle. It has higher concentrations of amino acids so the medium more closely approximates the protein composition of cultured mammalian cells. Optional supplementation of non-essential amino acids to the formulations that incorporate either Hanks′ or Earle′s salts has enhanced the uses of this medium. The α modification of MEM with Earle′s balanced salts also known as αMEM, contains non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, and additional vitamins.

This is the most enriched variation of the MEM formulation offered. It contains all 21 normal amino acids, some at increased concentrations. In addition, it contains 5 additional vitamins.

Application:Minimum Essential Medium Eagle has been used to maintain:

immature cumulus-oocyte complexes from mice

human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)

mouse pre-osteoblastic cell line

General description:Minimum Essential Medium Eagle (MEM) is a synthetic cell culture media, developed by Harry Eagle. It has higher concentrations of amino acids so the medium more closely approximates the protein composition of cultured mammalian cells. Optional supplementation of non-essential amino acids to the formulations that incorporate either Hanks′ or Earle′s salts has enhanced the uses of this medium. This formulation has been further modified by the optional elimination of calcium to permit the growth of cells in suspension culture. MEM can be used for the c*tion of a wide variety of cells grown in monolayers.

Early attempts to c*te normal mammalian fibroblasts and certain subtypes of HeLa cells revealed they had specific nutritional requirements that could not be met by Eagle′s Basal Medium (BME). Subsequent studies using these and other cells in culture indicated additions to BME could be made to aid growth of a wider variety of fastidious cells.
